Making money out of FOSS
FOSS is not free as in beer. It costs money to make FOSS SW. Where is the revenuse comming from to make this happen.

You need to think services vs product. A product oriented company (M$) is going to want closed SW and get lost of little bits of money for licenses to its product.

A service oriented company (eg RH) will derive revenue more from services than product. One of the services is to bundle FOSS into a usable product happy (Distro).

IBM get more than 50% of its revenue from services. SW product is less than 20% (correct?). They also get HW revenue. IBM are a services / hybrib company which is why they support FOSS (not necessarliy because they are altruistic).
