Some points
I don't have a lot of time to respond to all your points but...

I agree that there is nothing wrong with FOSS. My problem is that for some reason, many of the FOSS proponents want to force other companies to share their source as well, like they are evil if they do not. "Proprietary" has gotten a bad connotation for no valid reason. That's like forcing a religion onto someone. Do whatever works best for you but don't somehow try to force other people (cough..MS...cough) to do what YOU think is best. Open source is a flawed business model and the only reason people try to force it on MS is to weaken them, instead of actually giving people a valid option that they would LIKE to use instead. And no, Apple is not a valid option since they have complete control over their software AND hardware, and if they ever got to monopoly status things would be WAY worse as you won't even be able to buy from your hardware vendor of choice, but instead will have to buy overpriced, overhyped hardware.

BTW, the reason it's hard to buy a computer without Windows is because that's what the computer manufacturers determined is most cost-effective for them. Very few customers DEMAND a non-Windows system, and it all comes down to supply vs demand. There just isn't enough demand for Window-less systems. A long time ago you could blame MS because of their contracts, but these days it's purely the computer vendors doing whatever makes most business sense to them. Sorry, you can't blame MS for that. Try to buy a car without a radio. Same principal. Yes, a FEW people rip out the original radio but most expect it to be there. But of course you could also build your own system and never have to buy Windows. And the whole "convicted monopolist" line is becoming old and boring. We are no longer in the 90's. Instead, try to fix your OS of choice so that people WANT to use it. I mean, you have the power to do that since it's open source, right? Then Dell, Gateway, etc will sell you a computer with your favorite OS on there.
