Mr open source reality check.

I love it. Finally someone within a company supporting open source arguing for the need to allow proprietary code used within a GPL licensed body of software.

Gee go figure. You mean there are companies out there that want to differentiate their product so they can build in features unique to that product and sell it competitively against others?

Sounds like business 101 to me. Schwartz is speaking for all those big companies who are so "supportive" of open source. Of course companies like IBM support open source, its a free large body that can help them resist competitors like Microsoft. But believe me, there is nothing IBM wants more than to build in proprietary features unique to their products using open source software. How else do they compete and win customers over vs other options?

Open source is a good concept to push standards for software across different companies, but its one failure is the idealistic approach that neglects any company the ability to differentiate their product. If everythings just plain vanilla generic, who cares to buy company B or company C's product. No competition, all is free and mr techy supporter of open source is out of a job.
