I did not realize this was even possible...
... that in this day and age, such levels of ignorance and stupidity could still exist. Let's go point by point:
1. Terrorists and evil countries can and do get Microsoft products for free as well. Its called BOOTLEGGING and just because it is illegal doesn't mean it doesn't happen. Likewise, it is a much easier and effective form of terrorism to write Windows viruses than it is to try and distribute buggered versions of the Linux kernel.
2. Copyright allows creators to retain the right to their creations and use them as they see fit. If they see fit to GPL their program, it is their right. Anything else would be un-American.
3. I think what your saying here is that unemployed engineers contributing to the kernel are reducing their chances at finding new jobs. Not sure what this has to do with taxpayers, but most kernel developers are in fact employed. Linux creates jobs by lowering the entry barriers to the software industry to the point where anyone with an old Pentium-90 and a copy of Red Hat can start a software company. Linux fosters innovation by allowing anyone with a good idea to persue it regardless of wealth or good-standing with the folks in Redmond. Incidentally, with all the loopholes and deductions, Microsoft probably only pays about $37 a year in taxes. (Bill Gates: That's highway robbery!)
4. There was no fourth point.

In conclusion, I should point out that you do not have to pay a penny for Linux, you can download it for free. As such, if anything goes wrong, and I doubt it will, you aren't out much. The connection between that and a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head remains unclear, but I'm sure it made sense to you when you wrote it, so I will kind of nod reassuringly and step away.

Cheers!
