Obsucrity offers no protection
For example.

Lets say you bank account info is written on piece of paper left out in open only obscured by a piece of cardboard. If I lift the cardboard I get you personal bank info. Hence no security.

I have no problems providing you my bank info if you can prove to me that you are person I should be giving this info too. For example if my employer asks for my SIN number for tax purposes and Bank info for the purposes of direct deposit of my pay cheques.

Me keeping my bank info is security. You have to authenticate yourself with me first to obtain the data.

I've worked in security both computer and physical for 15 years. Want to know why obscurity offers no protection? Simply because anyone with the drive will walk up and defeat it. Even security is attacked like this. If you're leaving it to the assumption that because you think no one knows means you are not securing that part and are left completely unware of security breaches. This applies to network or buildings.

If you have a window that is unlocked and hidden by a bush you are at more risk than having a competely exposed unlocked window. At least with the exposed unlocked window you can see it but with the hidden windows you hid both the thief and you ability to see the thief.
