Vista, except for Basic, costs a lot more than XP for a upgrade. I paid $99 bucks for XP home and $129 for XP Pro. XP home was better than Vista Basic. I've got Vista Premium and XP Home they are quite alike in comparision.
You mentioned lower cost, so did Microsoft about activation; all I see is more $$$$.
I'm a consumer; MS didn't listen to me..... I was on their survey list and filled several surveys.
Enriching user experience, hmmm, I don't think so not yet. Media player in Vista is a nightmare for some users and needs to be fixed.
Granted Vista has potential.....
