While conventional wisdom would dictate that without the competitive pressure from pirated copies of Microsoft products driving down the price, billions of dollars stolen directly from Microsoft' bottom line force the software maker to compensate for its direct losses. As the illegal distribution cease and Microsoft can realize the full value of the products they sell with no further competition from itself they will be free to, once again, innovate and reduce the price to the consumer.
