Black boxes
Proprietary hardware, coupled with proprietary software is . . . a mac! Seriously, with the SOx requirements for security, a black box is a DISadvantage! Here at Company "F", we do "ethical hacks" and security certifications on both hardware and software. We want to know each piece of the infrastructure, to ENSURE that security is maintained. When we are faced with a black box - there are possible security problems that CANNOT be checked on. In this case, we place said black box on a private network and set up gateway machines. This complicates the environment, and adds cost - so OF COURSE we spend it! But most others would not. Companies are weary of black box solutions, and these guys will have problems getting into the large world-wide corporations.
