Dear Mr. Meyer,
You need to get experience of some other companies who already went that path and I could mention one of very large corporations I used to work for.
Software sale is ultimately different than hardware and no you will not succed with model of selling software as addition to hardware. The channels are different, the approach is different, the client is frequently different and has different expectations.
To tell the truth if this is supposed to work then you should sell software... and hardware as an addition to it these days.
So what is your service area?
