Moglen missing the problem
I'm disappointed with Eben Moglen. He seems to
be missing the point.

Let us assume that the GPL 3 comes out and is
clearly a superior license that everyone who has
ever released code under the GPL 2 wants to
adopt. So, there's no problem convincing people.
And this is a long shot.

This doesn't eliminate the problem. The problem
is that we need to contact everyone and get
everyone's permission. This would be fine if
only ten or twenty people submitted code to Linux
but in fact, hundreds or thousands of people
have.

Many of these people have changed email addresses
since they submitted code. Others have died.
How are you meant to get permission from a dead
person to relicense his contribution under a
different license? Moglen seems to think the
problem is convincing people to migrate to GPL 3.
In fact, the bigger problem is tracking down all
the contributors.
