I'm with connelly on this...
...Red Hat, albeit their decision, has done much for the whole Linux community, they pretty much contribute code to every single major project that spreads to GNU/Linux. From the X server, to the kernel, to the main Desktop environments (namely GNOME and KDE). The community benefits from all this.

If Red Hat is concious about all this, as their user base increases, their prices should lower, at least enough for more people to consider them over RHEL rebuilds. Which in turn will still have their place assured as RHEL compatibility is assured and maybe in environments that do not have nearly as much training and support needs (like large enterprises).

I myself am a Fedora user, before settling with Fedora, I was an avid Red Hat user (I've pretty much have also tried all major distros out there, but for my taste, Red Hat kept that sober austerity I liked so much)... I was kind of confused over the "fork" of the free branch, so they would in the future (i.e now) avoid confusion when using the general term "Red Hat" and for the public to associate that name to RHEL rather the free version. I've even found that Fedora is way more dynamic than Red Hat (up to version 9) ever was.

Despite the profound "quasi religious" discussions about Red Hat compared to other vendors like Mandrake Soft, Novell (AKA SuSE) and others; and when also compared to community driven distributions, most prominently Debian, I think Red Hat has shown to the Open Source community as much as enterprises that doing bussiness and making money (at reasonable prices) with Linux and Open Source is possible. Even though many members of the Open Source community try to make them look like the "Microsoft of the Open Source", I think that when viewd in the right proportion, Red Hat has done much for the community as well.

My 2?
