Do we need a standard?
I don?t believe the WC3 should be the ones to standardize XML compression. XML needs to be compressed for proprietary applications, just let the compression be proprietary as well. There are many ways to compress files for different needs. Does it need to be compressed to organize data? Does it need to be small and faster and have error checking for streaming data? If a business is really getting slowed down because their data isn?t keeping pace then they will find a way to fix it. And their way will work the best with their devices.
