I agree with your assertions. There are too many geeks out there with NOTHING better to do than to create or extend computer languages. I guess I understand how M$ started off doing this. IF the W3C comes up with a good solution, how long will it be before someone "forks" it again? I guess web services will have to wait, since no one wants to BOTH agree to and use common formats. I guess we'll be seeing ANOTHER "standard" soon . . . :P
