MSOFT's notions about the cmd prompt and those of the Unix world are at opposite ends of the spectrum. MS' cmd-line tools are stop-gaps which don't integrate well w/ the OS, whereas the Unix notion directs pros to build solutions that are sequence of smaller tools.

Moreover, if one must do serious hard drive (or for that matter, OS) repair, one *MUST* have a fully-operational Windows (whatever), unlike Unix which usually offers a working CD-based OS, in case one's hard drive or OS is damaged or corrupt.
