History is not on your side
Depends on how you define "soon." After 20 years in IT I can promise you that soon in IT is a very relative concept. Especially when all the hot new development is almost all coming from Linux. We're well past the tipping point, it's nothing but downhill for Microcrap (you like that better?). And the pace is accelerating.

I don't have to look any farther than our own projects. We probably install three Linux servers for every M$ box. In the server room Linux is doing the heavy lifting and critical apps. That ratio was almost completely reversed as little as three years ago. All of our customers are either testing or resaearching replacements for desktops and/or desktop components.

M$ has too much institutional inertia. Their brand of proprietary software development won't be able to survive against open source. The push for predictable revenue is killing them. You can only squeeze your customers so far before they start pushing back. They've traded too many profitable quarters for customer satisfaction. Want to do some interesting research? Check out how many M$ people are converting their options.

Okay, so maybe it's not next week, but they'll go down, a slow-motion death spiral. And no one will feel a bit sorry for them. Couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch...with the possile exception of SCO.
