There are lots of good software for free, but a lot of it leaves a lot to be desired.

Back in the Early 80s I had my apple. It was great. Cool color graphics and lots of great software. Along came the IBM PC and the clones and the MAC. The MAC as awesome as it was was overly expensive but the PC clones were cheap cheap cheap in comparison. So I got one and it had no graphics with monochrome green or amber text only. It lacked the amount of Apps compared to my Apple 2 and the apps left a lot to be desired. For 10+ years this PC lacked the goods but some how ended up with the market share.

I see thing like Linux and the rest of the GPL software doing this same thing to Microsoft that Microsoft did to Apple.
