- "Due Diligence" should be required.

Patents in general are a very good thing and does provide financial incentive to invest time and money. However, there needs to be a requirement of due diligence in defending the patent instead of allowing (or out right manipulation) it to be included in a standard, waiting for the standard to be adopted by the industry, and then coming forward with huge monetary claims.
