Hire some amateurs
and get crappy software! All of these slowness and feature set issues could be solved with a) Open sourcing or b) engaging a large software developer. Microsoft could do this, so could OpenOffice.org. BUT SOA goes against proprietary computer infrastructure, so NO LARGE DEVELOPERS will touch it with a ten-foot pole. SOA is also not very exciting in any way, so not a lot of open-source developers would be interested in doing it. This leaves middling companies with limited resources trying to do SOA. This is why SOA = DOA - VERY DOA.
