Why spend the money to develop a cheaper version.
Expecially when the cheaper version does less.

In the manufacturing business, you build a cheaper product by reducing the amount of and the price of the components.
Strip off A/C on a car, or replace leather with some cheap cloth. This to me makes sense.

Software on the otherhand. The product is developed, no additional work needs to be done to it, other than patches and fixes. I mean the product will not save any money. Infact, extra money will be spent to develop a cheaper product. No way they can get a cost savings what so ever, but they do it anyway. Why?

Why not just knock down the price and get to work of a cheaper version next release. Pool the resources, not split them up.

Oh well, this is why I am not the head of a large corporation that makes billions of dollars.
