Microsoft fixated on "skills"
The problem with VB6 migrations has never, ever been about skills. VB6 skills are perfectly portable to the .NET Framework, and I don't believe that has ever been at issue with most of the developers I know.

The problem is the lack of a migration path. In previous versions of VB, you might have a few tweaks to do, but you could bring even big projects forward with ease - even from win16 to win32.

That isn't there for us with VB.Net. There's a weak upgrade Wizard that Microsoft comissions from Artinsoft, which can migrate basic utilities, but can't do anything with line of business applications.

Microsoft has to do better with that upgrade wizard. People aren't going to move off of VB6 right now, because there's no path forward for big apps.

It's not skills, stupid. It's the upgrade path.
