AMD has been pretty open about publishing specifications openly. For this reason alone, Xen will probably work better with AMD to start out.

VMWare seems like a company that wants to get along with both sides, so if Intel and AMD specs don't jive, VMWare will still probably try to get both to work.

Microsoft on the other hand, has a history working closely with Intel. Unless AMD takes more than 50% marketshare away from Intel, I don't see Microsoft changing their mind.

For reasons of sanity and uniformity, I hope that the specs for both processor instruction sets are more than 95% the same.
