Xen will be free, and faster than the current version of VMWare.
And, hard to say if Microsoft will support Xen, but if they don't, it will cost you an extra 15 grand if one of the OSes you want to run is Windows, and Microsoft won't like that. And, this does make sense on even a 2 processor server if you want to isolate functions. Think a farm of 2 processor blade servers, where most of the jobs do not need the power of one blade.
