The problem with PC
Is that it is so often raised in furtherance of an agenda. Sure we could blacklist Northrup Grumman, Lockheed Martin, Boeing and others whose actual business could certainly be characterized as "killing for profit" in a much more tangible way than IBM's. If you really want to push it, maybe you should bring up IBM's former Federal Systems Division which did in fact make killing products for profit. Actually, I think the division is now completely sold (now Lockheed Martin's), but I'll bet you would find that it was not a fit of conscience that prompted the sale, but some crass business reason.

When we begin to get afield of the value of the product to the business, the charge-countercharge exchange and the staff hours consumed in supporting research simply overwhelms rational decision-making. I'm afraid the only rational way to do business is as business.
