I do not upgrade every 3 years
The interest in the bios is going to be a min. of 14 years due to copyright. I believe the patent died with IBM. It is possible to improve on it, and repatent a new idea. Will look it up sometime. Going to hang onto your computer for 14 years?

Let's see a $5 eprom chip x 2% for royalities = 10 cents. That is if they have a patent. They make money on volume. Don't want to bankrupt you Stallman, you cheap SOB.

Hardware companies are not going to release specifics so they become cheap commodities for open source.
