Stallman insists on mandatory open. Propriatory evil must be abolished. I really don't care if open source exists, just so long as they do not try to shut the traditional way down.

Most hardware companies wants to keep their specs hidden from other hardware companies to compete. Did you know that NVidia & ATI own a sizeable chunk of code that goes into DirectX? If that code were opened up, each company would know how the others constructed their chipsets turning both companies into commodities.
