RE: FF still has a bigger footprint
>>>FF still has a bigger footprint
I tried it. In fact I have 1 only window open in firefox and 16 in IE and Firefox is still bigger:
1 window in FF: 56,804k but 16 windows in FF(? - Do your mean IE): 66,576
16 separate IE windows: 50,248k

FF seems to be a memory hog to me.

Odd you seem to be the only one having such skewed results. I got:

FF w/6 tabs = 36K
IE - 6 instances = 67K, 16 instances w/blank page = 136K
Mozilla w/6 tabs - 22K , w/16 tabs - 40K

Any explanation why your results are so skewed? Did you intentionally look for pages that take more memory with FF while looking for the smallest plain pages you could find with IE? I noticed that when I started loading pages with large graphics mem usage seems to go up.

Interesting that 16 tabs in Mozilla uses about 40K while each additional IE instance add another 11K. This makes it extremely difficult to believe you have 16 instances of IE using only 66K. When I opened 16 instances of IE with blank pages I still got over 136K used memory.

At any rate, your results are not repeatable and, therefore, useless as comparison.
