They care about their rights and consumer rights
Our country has consumer protection and privacy rights. You do not have to give any info in order to get a product (or activate it). Once you buy the software you own it and the software must work regardless of activation . Activation requirements can not force you to hand over your identity (by law) or disable the software if you do not activate. Before M$ was distributed here. They talk directly to the CEO and got assurance on activation. As long as activation was anonimous (didn't collect any private info - name, addr, telephone,IP ADDR) it was legal. Otherwise M$ was to remove it entirely because it violated laws here. When people buy products here they do no have to hand over info to receive a working product or software. That's like saying in order to use a piece of paper to write on I need to know who you are, ridiculous.

Their are no laws that require customers to provide personal info in order to get a product working. In fact they stated that in no way should there ever be a requirement. You buy a product it must work indefinitely regardless and not need activation here. That is why they wanted assurances from M$ on activation.

The governement doesn't want IP info/ or any Personal/business stored (because it's none of M$ business which Gov, or persoanl computer it's on. Why would M$ have a right to know what government of defense computer an OS is on, and why should the government get permission from M$ to move an OS from one machine that died to another). Yes they have volume licenses (that don't require activation) , but the government here has been buying single licenses as well (those copies do require it).

I don't care what you're rights are in your country, but our rights on this issue are spelled out in clear ink and language. No collecting any info at all. You are not the Police. You have no rights to do so. To force people to give the info violates are privacy laws here (that is a criminal offense)
