Proprietary lockins, not just by Microsoft are responsible for Opensource. Microsoft just adds fuel to the fire as you sad. But IBM is setting the framework preventing OpenSource from getting careless or sloppy. Depends on your point of view as to who does more for OpenSource. IBM is definitely constructive as far as their contributions.
I still think this is a direct aim at MS to try and tank the money they spent on Virtual PC.
As well as EMC buying up VMWare.
