Con job?
The shared source program has never claimed to be open source. MS never claimed that you could take this code and do anything you wanted with it. Where is the con job?

MS isn't trying to bastardize the open source concept into something it isn't. This is nothing more than it appears to be: a peek at their source code. Is it a big deal? Remember that this is a company that was accused of hiding APIs so that Microsoft products would work better than 3rd party products. People are confused because they think shared-source is all about stealing other people's ideas. Far from it, shared source is all about showing other people how to best use Microsoft platforms. If you want to fix bugs and send them to MS, fine, but you don't have to. If you do though, the end result is that the product you use (after all, if you don't use MS products, why fix their code?) gets better in the end.

I like the open source concept much like I like vanilla ice cream. It doesn't mean that vanilla ice cream is the ONLY dessert in the world and I certainly respect anyone who wants to eat a nice cheesecake after dinner. In fact, I might even have some myself, yum! Zealots, on the other hand, refuse to recognize that anything other than vanilla ice cream could possibly have any benefit at all. Sad really.
