Sorry, it isn't opensource. I don't care about
the GPL, what I do care about is whether *I* get
access to that code, the fact is, unless you're
in a fortune 500 company, or have millions to
shell out for their special "Shared Source" orgy,
you won't be able to have access to it.

I respect Microsofts right to make money -
without the money being paid, no programmers
would get paid. With that being said, don't call
something opensource unless a person can actually
get access to it. Since I can't get access to
*any* of their current "share source"
initiatives, it isn't opensource.

Opensources strength is the ability for *ANYONE*
to view the source. I get view the source from
SUN for Java, I can do the same for Linux, *BSD,
and numerous other things, and yet, when
something is under "Shared Source", unless I have
millions, I'm not allowed to look.

What I would also like to see is Microsoft allow
people to port their shared source applications
to other platforms. Why not allow a small band of
volunteers to port Microsoft SQL to Solaris, for
example? how about porting Office to Solaris by
using Mainsoft?

Sorry, without flexibility and open access to
view by all - regardless of wallet size, the
"Shared Source" initiative is nothing short of a
con job.
