Open source comes under many licenses.
While RMS argues against the MS Shared Source and Microsoft speaks against the GPL, Microsoft has blessed the BSD License (RMS may or may not support this, but that doesn't matter). If all you know about open source is what RMS states, you have a very limited view on the subject. Keep in mind that there is a pile of BSD stuff in Windows (from 2000 to XP to 2003).
