Shared source not
Open Source. If it was open source then an NDA would not be needed. The ability to modify and compile would be granted and it would not be in the Microsoft "Shared Source" program. Also what you are allowed to see is not the full source code, only a peek, a sample just enough to hook you.

But it is not Open Source by any definition of such.
