Open source? Yes.
Free source? Yes. Just not "copylefted", which means your code can be used for proprietary code. It doesn't have to be GPL to be considered free source. The BSD licences are considered free source too, but obviously they are discouraged by the FSF because they allow proprietary programs usage of the code for merely a copyright notice. From what I do know, and I admit it's not much, it is akin to Sun's CDDL for Solaris, meaning you cannot mix GPL and MPL code into one program.

So Firefox is free source, but you cannot yank code out of a GPL code source and mix it with Firefox's. Then again, you can't yank MS's shared source and mix it with Firefox's either, so that doesn't make Firefox non-free.
