The Linux/Unix Myth
This Linux only replaces Unix is bull.

What Linux is replacing is anything that Linux can do cheaper and easier. That happens to be a lot of Windows servers actually.

A few examples:

I can secure Linux with Apache a lot easier than Windows 2000 with IIS.

I need network sensors. Windows 2000 with Real Secure works but is way too expensive for multiple subnets. But then the Linux and Snort.

I need an Oracle Database server. I could go with Windows or I could go with Linux. Now Oracle suggests Linux and Linux is easier to secure and can be purely a database server. So the obvious choice is Linux.

I just want a basic file server. Window 2000 could do it but why pay for a server license for storing data in directories that get backed up nightly. Linux does it for much less.

Then there are the vendors who just have Linux solutions now. Ran it my first one of those. Used to be just Windows was like that.
