Content Reference...since this is most likely to be some kind of IP of some kind of method I wont be content with the reference of it.
Maybe it makes sense to the person developing it.Perhaps having the 'rights to something makes sense to somebody. If you have a given machine, maybe it is a computer, maybe it is a phonograph.
Now the big 'what if,is when you look at the utility digital music offers, and 'none of the disc companies have rights to them. Then - in order to use these 'new properties, you have to have the artists right to use them .
You'll say to yourself,..the artist 'sold the rights to us as a disc company, and we will do what we want with the performance of them, because we are the 'person making the arrangements with the artists.
OK I'm am a MUSIC purchaser, because you 'sold the MUSIC to me I do what I want to do with the Music you sold me because your sold me the Music.
You sold me the music I have the receipt, the receipt shows what was sold, there is no kind of arrangement neccesary. The receipt tells me exactly what I bought. The security in the right of property is what is shown by my proof of purchase.
...........
Feeding us yesterdays sandwich is what they are doing.
..........
If I agree to that being how that works we have an agreement. However if I dont want the agreement we dont' have a sale.
Then if you have MUSIC for sale. And I buy some Music,it has given detail in what can and cannot be a feature of the MUSIC - it would be clear as day what the receipt had told me I purchased,.
Dont count on selling agreements though. Its the situation you've got.Substituting the spoils for product.
You might find yourself a new cookie while your at it.
