Re: Fedora or RHEL, who cares??
Counting Linux and open-source software as an insignificant threat to Microsoft and Windows is foolish. Period. Anyone who thinks that Linux is purely the domain of geeks and has only green screens is woefully ignorant. No matter how "cool" the new Longhorn UI is (or any of its other features for that matter), the way Microsoft does business will destroy it forever unless a significant change is observed. Home and business users alike are tired of being run over. Huge companies, like IBM, HP, Oracle and others, are pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into Linux and open-source software on a continual basis. Anyone who ignores the results of hundreds of millions of dollars being pumped into alternative projects, is going to wake up one day and realize that their fantasy world was exactly that. Cool features don't sell products if the company who makes them is percieved by its former customers as being evil. Who wants to be run over by a company that cares only about the bottom line? But, and perhaps more importantly, why would anyone /support/ a company that is only in it for the money? That kind of business model is going to fail...and the sooner, the better.
