Open Source getting suckered in?
I fail to see why anyone is getting excited over compaines handing out fairly useless patents to them. Why useless?

Because most software patents are used in conjunction with other patents. That is, one or two do you very little good without the missing key components. It's like saying here, you can use TCP, but you can not use it over IP because we have a patent on that too. (Just an example)

Hmmm, IBM "gave" 500 patents and leaves them holding something like 30,000 in reserve. Oh yeah, big gift there. NOT!

And the strangest part is that people that hate the patent system are patting IBM on the back as if they did them some big favor. As P.T. Barnum said, "there is one born every minute"...
