CompTIA represent a minority viewpoint last time I looked we live in a democracy.

There is no majority among the current Council of ministers to push this through. There is no majority among Parliament. There is no majority among people.

Gates comments from 1991 blows the lid off the bad motives behind the people involved.

Not only should the Commission now concede to demoncratic vote, people within the EU Patent Office should be sacked, since they are issuing software patents which they know don't conform the law in force.

Last time I looked the civil servants work for the democracy not the other way around.
