With friends like that...

..Claimed that like Windows2000 lite things just did not work like some of his older programs and such. He put XP Pro on and things were much, much better...

Don't know what's going wrong with your friend's setup but here's my take.
No Win2K lite.....Professional and Server versions only.
The difference is in some server tuning and licensing of concurrent connnections.
The same sort of difference exists with XP Home and Pro. All the server stuff is now in 2003 Server.
With the Pro version you get a Workstation equivalent of Win2K pro (IIS, limited server capabilities etc). The home version is for the non power users (The Win98 set).

I find it very hard to believe that code will run on one version and not the other unless the system is acting as a server in which case XP home is not for him.
