More complicated than that

"However many people come even close to using all tha say MS Word has for features/functions?"

While it's true that any GIVEN individual may not have a need for 90% of the functionality in Word, taken as a whole, each Word feature is used somewhere by someone. The question becomes, what features should be left out? Who determines which users' needs are 'less important' than others?

Certainly, Microsoft could have chosen to build its Office products more modular, but it didn't. It should be clear by now that Microsoft's preferred design is to incorporate as much as functionality into its products as possible, and let the users sort them out.
