Welcome to the real world . . .
Welcome to the real world - Don't even try to count the number of proprietary licenses. I doubt this is going to change - a lot of companies just don't like the current GPL. It's nice for the more religious folks, but in reality it's not very practical for those who really want to make money selling the software they make!

IMO Open Source has its advantages - many eyes looking at the code, available for peer review, larger teams for small businesses, not having to reinvent the wheel if another project has something you'd like, etc.

But none of the principles excludes the author from selling the software. And neither should they.

But the section of the GPL that says I must make my entire code GPL if I include a GPLed library does just that, because making my entire code "free" means anybody can re-wrap it and redistribute it, making my attempts to sell it rather useless, becaue it is free elsewhere.

Don't talk to me about distributions and selling T-shirts. I want to sell my software!

Is there anything wrong with that want?
