It's slowing down because
the d@mn*d software is auditing your PC for things for which to sic the BSA on you.

The EULA agreement to apply the patches is truly a lesson in giving the fox the key to the henhouse. I saw one version of the Longhorn license that would allow MS to claim as their own anything you create using their software.

It's similar to the Yahoo! EULA when they first took over Geocities. Yahoo! claimed ownership of all content on people's personal web pages when you logged in after the takeover and you had to click "accept" before you could edit your pages. That didn't last long, but that was when people still read the things...
