You wanted a flame, you're going to get one :P.

Getting riddled with lawsuits is not "competition." Competition is being successful simply because you have a better product. Now, with the current patent system, you can have a better product, but if the competition doesn't like you, they can force you to not sell it.

Capitalism works through competition - your product may be a total flop, but hey, you had a chance, and you can still sell it later anytime you want. Now the competition can prevent you from selling your product in the first place.

It also completely warps the idea of ownership. It does not matter is you came up with the idea independently. If they came up with it first, it's "theirs." The patent holders "own" your own ideas.
