Ahh...memories...
I'm an old Paradox for Windows fan and for the life of me I can't figure out why Borland sold it to Corel, other than they were desperate for cash and didn't want to pawn Mr. Kahn's Jaguar.

Even though Paradox is now owned by the King of Shovelware (Corel), I still love it. You can keep Access and Filemaker. Nothin' particularly wrong with 'em, but once you've done something fun and/or tricky in ObjectPal, you're hooked. I even wrote a simple Pong-like video game in ObjectPal, it was that robust (wonderful, eh--a database app that offers up entertainment?) while I was learning it. Very easy to do and I'm a graphic artist, not a programmer. Writing a database app which could send documents via WinFax Pro was also easy in Paradox, once you got around the lack of decent documentation on DDE Topics for most Windows apps.

Got an ancient copy of Delphi for Windows (5? I can't recall). My sweetie bought it for me at a used software place, have never installed it, always intended to. By reputation, Delphi was supposed to be the hands-down best win32 development environment out there (I'm talking about the older Kahn-era versions). I have an old 3rd-party Delphi book (circa '95) where the authors brag that you can write Windows DLLs in Delphi but not in Microsoft's competing Visual Basic, pointing to its power as an IDE for rapid development.

And yes, I can tell database apps which were written in Paradox by the GUI widgets, which I'm sure were the same for all of Borland's products at the time. happy
