Anti-ownership? WHYBS?
Public domain release is anti-ownership. Open source is all about ownership. You get credit, you get license fees, you get your dues, honor and respect. Pulic Domainn release says it belongs to the public and no acknowledgements or licensing necessary. No dues, honor nor respect.

Have you been to the FSF, OSI, CC, GNU GPL, or Mozilla sites lately to leaarn anything? And an owner of a patent can be a corporation so the FSF can be a patent owner as can the OSI, CC, GNU Foundation, Mozilla Foundation, etc. but that not withstanding, they don't have to own the patent.

You can. Its your idea. Just like you own the copyright on your GPL'd software. Its yours. Anyone wants to use it in a commercial product has to buy a license from you. Not from the guy who altered it after the guy who altered it after the guy who altered it after you GPL'd it. They buy the license from you. You are acknowledged as the copyright owner of the original work. Its your baby.

If however you work for MS, IBM, PARC, Sun, etc., and you come up with an idea, you don't own it. It belongs to the corporation you work for. No you. Its not yours, its theirs. Them. You don't own it. They do. The proverbial, 'they.' You know what 'they' say, don't ya? "Mine, mine, all mine...."
