OSS: be careful about being taken advantage of
OSS should realize one thing: it one to try and get computer companies to help you; it is however another thing to allow yourself to have a noose placed around your neck by these companies. Software patents more than anything puts OSS at the beck and call of large computer companies. If OSS in the future wants to do something that is disagreeable to its large company patrons, all these companies have to do is withdraw their protection of OSS from patents ? leaving OSS out in the legal cold. If OSS values its freedom to create code above everything else, it must not accept patents lying down.
