Nice post but....
..Because of Microsoft's monopoly, Linux has risen as the alternative particularly because it is Free Software and therefore not influenced by Microsoft's ability to manipulate prices....

I don't see it that way.
Firstly, Linux is replacing Unix in the server room and not desktop Windows.
Secondly, while MS strong-armed OEMs I don't recall any mention of price manipulation/gouging.
The OEM price is actually a bargain.

Wrong. Dell are free to sell as many Linux machines as they want. The problem for you lot is that they choose not to.

You must have been on holidays but MS announced last year that they'll be returning most of the Billions as dividends.
If you read the financials you also realized that MS don't have to dip into any reserves as they are still a very profitable company.
Still, don't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

As long as the Linux faithful are blaming the big bad wolf, desktop Linux will go nowhere.
It's about apps and ease of use and not flowery excuses.
