You say "potatoes" and I say "patahtoes."
I throw "compatibility" in the same barrel with "interoperability," you don't. To which my question is: what happens when you want to do something with interoperability which is going to REQUIRE compatibility? Say, something new with WebDAV or IMAP? (Gotta use the same protocols there if you are going to interoperate at all!) What you're going to get with the above is something like the "special" XML that MS has.

The whole history of MS is "embrace, extend, extinguish." Always on THEIR terms, and NEVER to the benefit of the users, but to the benefit of THEIR bottom line.

"What do MS get back by opening NTFS to all and sundry?" See? Exactly my point, MS is ALWAYS looking at "what's in it for me" and NEVER looking at "how is this going to benefit the user COMMUNITY, even those using another OS." The latter is what they are trying to IMPLY they are doing with this "interoperability by design" BS and I for one don't buy it.
