I don't think the definition of interop is applicible in your situation.
If these services are provided via webservices and there is still a problem with interop then your argument is valid.

If your Linux/BSD are risking catastrophic data loss writing to NTFS then don't do it.
I know Windows has no problems.
Perhaps it's Linux/BSD that should get their interop act together. It's in their best interest, not Microsofts.
