Dev support coming
"I suspect that Fedora hasn't recieved the anticipated
support at least partly because Red Hat has never been a
desktop oriented distro."

The support to which the author is referring is developer
support. This requires a public CVS repository, something
Red Hat is working towards.

Fedora has an active community in other areas. The official
website is:
http://fedora.redhat.com/

The (very active) mailing list :
http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-list

And one of the many news sites :
http://fedoranew.org/

"Part of may also be the perception that Red Hat is
beginning to look way to much like Microsoft in its
licensing and support contracts."

If this is the perception, it's wrong. All Red Hat source is
released in full to the community, they do not sell licenses.
They sell support contracts.

"Plus, Fedora Core III kind of sucked a little."

In what way?
